Welcome Ds&Cs About

Fun Grooming with the 4 simple steps.

Keeping your new puppy well groomed is a small if you remember the basics : Brushing, nail cripping, cleaning ears and bathing. Following this protocol will keep your puppy looking and smelling great, getting it accustomed to the routine while it's young easier the process during its lifetime.

Brushing
No matter the breed, proper brushing is the backbone of good grooming. It keeps the coat tangle-free,distributes oils, stimulates circulation and removes dirt and dead skin.Increased circulation promotes healthy skin and hair regrowth. You can't go worng by brushing your puppy or adult dog daily.
Match the brush with the coat type.Generally, use a cureved wire slicker pin brush for longhaired breeds such as the Lhasa Apso and Old English Sheepdog. a regular wire slicker works well on medium-length coars or short coats with a dense undercoat, such as those terriers, Germanshepherds and American Eskimos.
Begin brushing the head and ears then brush the neck, chest and front legs. Work your way back, finishing with the tail
.

Nail trimming.
To trim the nails, hold a paw firmly in one hand. Place your thumb on top of the dog's foot and your fingers underneath so you can spread the toes. With the clippers in your other hand, slip the nails one at a time with short decisive stroke. Don't foget the dewclaws. A good rule of thumb is to cut right below where the nail begins to curl. Usually, the quick is just above that you won't cut into it. If you missed and the nail bleeds, apply a pinch of styptic powder.Hold it for 30 seconds or until the bleeding stops.

Ear cleaning
Cleaning a healthy ear is simple. Do not use the water. Use a cotton ball with a cleanser recommended by your veterinaian. Gently wipe out dirt and wax. Wipe inside the ear folds as well as the ear flap.

Bathing
The key to easy bathing is preparation. First, brush the coat, clean the ears and clip the nails. Pleace the cotton ball in the ears. Turn on the water beginning with the head.Soak it to the skin all over. Apply shampoo. Scrub head to tail, rinse and scrub again. The final rinse is especially important because soap left in the dog's coat can irritate the skin, and it will look like dandruff flakes in dark coated. Squeeze excess water from the coat and dry with a towel or blow dryer. Don't allow your dog outdoors until it is completely dry.
